The Invaders

The Invaders

A Poem by Sam Freeland
"

buyers beware

"

What we had is now theirs

    we didn't defend

Our mantra 'no buddy cares'

    we would rather just spend

Getting what was wanted

    the song of the day

Never mind the cost

    the credit card will pay

The plan has been used

    for many a year

It is always excused

so to get what is dear

Beguiled by the things

    that had to be ours

Using borrowed funds

    that gave us our powers

Now comes the day

    to settle the score

We have nothing left

    and still want more

Ebays the place

    that may save us yet

Hoping to survive

it is not a good bet

We looked at the others

    who had all those things

It seemed so important

    but sadness it now brings

You can't make the payments

    to even keep your house

It will soon be the home

    of some happy mouse
