Escape

Escape

A Poem by Sam Freeland
"

for two

"

High on the mountain
where we shared the escape
Far below we could see
many places we had to flee

The lives we had left
were unhappy and sad
We had to get away
life had become so bad

Plans for our escape
had an urge so strong
Because we knew so well
that we didn't belong

Life brought the changes
we didn't expect
Since one can never know
what will come next

As we held each other close
we knew we had to go
We wanted to be free
and going would make it so

In the distance far away
we saw the hope for us
No matter what it took
despite all the fuss

We had known for long
there must be a way
High on the mountain
we could see a new day

When your life has taken
a turn you can't enjoy
Find someone to share
who will not be coy

Together there will be
more of life to see
With the love we share
in our future we might be three

The universe has given
a chance for us to live
We want a better future
so we will have more love to give
