Forgetful

Forgetful

A Poem by Sam Freeland

Everyone knows of this condition

often typical of someone old

Or are they being deliberatley forgetful

not wanting to do what they are told

When a loss is something important

like where are the missing car keys

Go look in the ignition

the solution might be a breeze

Otherwise starting any new task

when the first is not done

Can cause us to search

for what before was begun

These searches can be maddening

when the lost cannot be found

But blaming someone else for the loss

is a peactice really unsound

Retracing your steps

is the first thing you can do

What you see as you look

will help to jog your memory too

When you find what was lost

if there was someone you blamed

You will need to forgive them

or it is you that should be shamed

Finding what is lost is not easy

we should take some time to reflect

On where we were when it was lost

or is this too much to expect

Suggestions for how to correct

forgetful conditions abound

When we are able to remember more

things we lost might sooner be found
