Independent Action

Independent Action

A Poem by Sam Freeland
"

a goal

"

One's choice of being independent
 speaks from the inner heart
Avoiding a life of containment
has been a goal from the start

I listened to the educators
who told us what to learn
But my thinking was more independent
what they said was not my concern

My choices have determined the future
and they have given me great joy
No one should ever question them
unless their goal was to destroy

Everywhere I looked for answers
I saw how different others are
My thoughtful choices are better
at least this has been true so far

My efforts as I write poetry
have been a search for the truth
Searching for reality is more interesting
as it has been since my youth

We must live our life as we see fit
it is all about what we choose
Anything other than a thoughtful search
there will be very much to lose

Fulfilling this promise to yourself
gives every day some new pleasure
What more could anyone ask
than to take life's full measure

Having a strong belief in my efforts now
there is far less chance for regret
Every day has is a new opportunity
this is the best life will ever get

What an uplifting way to look at life! "We must live our life as we see fit
it is all about what we choose" Truer words were never written. Too often people blame everyone but themselves for the consequences of their own choices in life. Your rhyme flows easily and the words contain wonderful life advice. Lydi*
