Food and Health

A Poem by Sam Freeland
"

for long life

"

Everyone can eat better
by using what they have learned
For many this doesn't happen
their bad habits cannot be spurned

Habits are always in control
even though we want to improve
Choices for many years were wrong
we just couldn't get out of our groove

We like what we have been doing
because most of the choices were easy
Where we went and what we ate
never made us feel queasy

New tastes we were given to eat
were blamed for our being upset
It was easier to blame the food
than strangers we had just met

Excuses to avoid the truth
every habit has such a friend
Bad habits are a way of life
right to the bitter end

If you see yourself in these words
as I know it is about me too
Let's admit to our weakness
and figure out something to do

Spending less time copying others
will be a good way to start
Just talking about wanting to live longer
will even be a benefit to our heart

Talk to the old folks you know
about why they are still here
They might have valuable suggestions
for which you can give them a cheer
