Age

Age

A Poem by Sam Freeland
"

and the changes

"

Shorter weaker comes with age
its what has happened
because you turned the page

Never more to enjoy some youth
now too far over the hill
and long in the tooth

As you can see in these words
memory has gotten clearer
but value only for the birds

In youth this was rare
in anyone you knew
but you could not care

A four line couplet
used in past
Will come back soon
and it will last

Three is now less easy
to say what I think
even though its breezy

Challenge is very great
to get it right
with everything straight

Requests for a poem
will be too difficult
wherever I roam

Not knowing subjects life
makes it too hard
like talking to your wife

Everything has to come
from experience
or its dumb
