A Tip

A Tip

A Poem by Sam Freeland
"

to the wise

"
When the customer is tight
there are surprises to behold
Even when the tip is slight
remember you've been told

You've done all  you could
never wishing for a fight
But you must remember
the customer is always right

The plates were hot
when you picked them up
Everything was in place
including the cup

The stainless was set
on the napkin so white
You certainly can bet
I don't want a fight

Should you not like poetry
that you have to read
Please then forgive me
I didn't eat every seed

But I did write this poem
very late last night
I wrote it at home
so we could avoid a fight

To see where this ends
in what is more or less
Just turn the page over
and you won't have to guess

Excellent rhyme and cadence. Very well-written, though I must admit I'm puzzled by the turn the poem takes in the latter stanzas. I apologize for my apparent obtuseness.
