Acquaintance

Acquaintance

A Poem by Sam Freeland
"

and her poem

"
I met a young lady
at a restaurant today
She sat down at my table
and it began to make my day

She said she overheard
what I said to the waitress
She wanted to talk
I didn't need to guess

I think she also said
she was eighty eight
She looked much younger
and didn't ask for a date

This didn't surprise me
She looked too smart
To give this old man
even a start

I was satisfied
just to talk to her
Her husband was paying
for the check I'm pretty sure

I told her about Writer'sCafe
and the poems we like to write
She could go and look for herself
it is everyone's right

Writer's has accepted
many of my poems before
If they accept this one
I will write many more

If when she sees this poem
she will also start to write
I will have done her a favor
with that I say good night
