A Poem by Sam Freeland
"

a good year for you

"
Living in twenty thirteen
and born in twenty nine
Anyone might be 83 or 84
with a survival past just fine

We have had a long time to live
being eighty is better than none
Though many things went wrong
life has been a happy one

Living only a shorter time
we should not have minded at all
That is why I am writing this poem
I will be waiting for you to call

Tomorrow we would be older
it will be another banner day
We should be thankful to be alive
living in our very own way

If you like anything you have read
it says you can do it too
Just tell us how you enjoyed life
that shouldn't be very hard to do

Your words will be your gift
to all of those you love
The ones you see every day
and those in heaven above

When you finish writing your poem
with or without the rhyme
Good feelings toward you will exist
tomorrow and for a very long time

You know their feelings will be enjoyed
because the gift of love you gave
Will echo so often in your memory
those feelings you will want to save
