Fleeting Fame

Fleeting Fame

A Poem by Sam Freeland

Fame is not only physical
its a media sponsored event
But when you don't make the cut
you still have to pay the rent

Investments if you are famous
may be your saving grace
In the later years of competing
the income will help save face

Golfers have one advantage
the walking adds to their health
Some football players can get rich
but concussions come with the wealth

Take heed when you are famous
as you age it won't last very long
When older they won't even know you
unless you do something very wrong

The tournaments in the past
were played by so very few
Even the great ones today
look for TV announcing to do

Moderate and steady exercise
is how golfers play the game
Their joints will soon feel their age
accurate driving will not be the same

The fame you have may continue
on into your later years
Support from your old loyal fans
may still be ringing in your ears

But fans of the young golfers
who are also playing your game
Will be following them instead
letting them share your fame

Not bad. Very grounded and topical, which, although not my favorite thing, is still executed fairly well.
