A Poem by Sam Freeland
"

and survival

"
Being sleepless at night
Often due to our pain
There is little to delight
As we handle this bane

When we finally go to sleep
Waking up it's the same
If only there was a way
To stop playing this game

But the answer is here
Staring us down
Though we do our best
To deny it with a frown

In searching our past
It becomes ever more clear
That what we’ve been doing
Are the acts we should fear

With our eyes now opening
We can begin by hoping
That respite will come
And be more than just some

The source of the help
That we hope to find
Will come when we wake up
And treat our body more kind

The life that we live
Will only lead to more pain
We better change our behavior
If we want to enjoy being sane

In the game we’ve been playing
We didn’t make up the rules
The people who don’t follow them
Are the ones who are fools

The words in this poem
Tell me what to do
You had better find your own words
If you want help for you
