A Poem by Sam Freeland
"

year of the snake

"

Beliefs control our destiny

and thirteen has a bad name

Why do we even listen

is life just another game

They say destiny itself

is controlled by the stars

With a proper horoscope

you win a whole box of cigars

Its easy to believe what others say

harder to decide what is true

If others are that important

here is what you might do

If you are alive and eighty three

you likely know more than most

They have to sort out all the fiction

before they can become a ghost

If you have read widely

and thought about the facts

You already have more wisdom

that most of their minds lacks

Most enjoy the comfort

of beliefs they have heard

Without a need for definitions

and such a belief is absurd

If this all sounds egotistic

it is all about the language we learn

Try writing your own poem now

and you will experience my concern

You have a surfeit of ideas

it is just the words you lack

I hope you will take the challenge

and send me an answer back
