More Than Once

More Than Once

A Poem by Sam Freeland
"

many times

"

They say you only live once

and I think this is not true

Each day is another life

waiting patiently for you

You are a different person

because you have lived in the past

Each day you greet the morning

you know it could be your last

Your collection of cells is changing

over which you have little control

They function without your command

until your death takes its toll

Dying each night of the year

millions of cells say goodbye

New cells born in the night

greeting the morning is no lie

Some part of you wants to live again

that is why you are still here

What you need to do then

is give yourself a hearty cheer

Your death each and every day

gives another chance to live again

It should make you feel thankful

just enjoy the new life when

There may come a time

when you wish this game was done

Like I am wishing now

the end I think I've won

My serious pain has come so often

each time came another chance

My next life tomorrow

will give another reason to dance
