Itch

Itch

A Poem by Sam Freeland
"

don't scratch

"
Allergy causing skin itch
giving me daily torment
Scratching makes it worse
only cortico-steroids prevent

Steroids hurt immune system
delaying any cure
Its a double ended dagger
and that is for sure

One trip to McDonalds
ending up with a sore throat
Up the creek without paddle
just for some wi-fi remote

Poetry is just words
but the itching is real
I really hate the result
especially how I feel

Solution to the problem
is likely only worse
Less talk on the phone
for my desire to converse

I will try this now
there is nothing else to do
A little sleep for a few minutes
maybe more than a few

I woke up in an hour
itching is much less
I will try not to scratch
and to this I confess

The work of writing poems
may be just what I need
If only I can remember
and more frequently heed
