Culture Wars

Culture Wars

A Poem by Sam Freeland
"

hurt everyone

"

Culture wars still exist

they are part of our history

The pain they cause is real

and it is not a mystery

The fight is about money

between haves and haves-not

When not born of the upper crust

they get less share of the pot

Privilege gives an advantage

just as training in private schools

The powerful print the money

the poor are treated like fools

Every culture has its character

with many rules to live by

Sharing could benefit everyone

a plan that more should try

The differences get much worse

with every population increase

Less commonality hurts everyone

some problems will never cease

As the societal gulf widens

the poor drag everyone down

The rich build private homes

only in their part of town

Humans are an animal society

and it will eventually disappear

But for now we need more people

who will share without fear

When more find a way to join them

we will all have a better life

There will be more days of enjoyment

and certainly far less strife
