Facing Life

Facing Life

A Poem by Sam Freeland
"

more carefully

"
Some would really rather die
than face an awful truth
The choice is unintentional suicide
begun early in their youth

Danger lurks everywhere
it is sure you already know
But how you act in your life
is the way you choose to go

It may start when you wander
as early as being three
The world is enticing
it is what you wanted to see

If you were fortunate
someone was watching you
To save you from mortality
behavior you could not do

The happy truth in your case
is that you still are here
Take a moment to rejoice
and listen as we cheer

Every new day you get a chance
to be aware of how to act
Admit that many things you do
will be fatal and that's a fact

If you drive its often too fast
you need to get there now
Slow down and pay attention
safer driving is about how

As I write I know my message
is really much about me
I had better pay more attention
or I will not live to be

I like how, in end, you point out that this message is really for you. It helps the reader to ground the concerns of the poem in somebody's life and then take away what they think is most useful for themselves.
One line I don't quite understand is "safer driving is about how". Is it just about the word 'how'?
