Acts

Acts

A Poem by Sam Freeland
"

of value

"

As you grow older

your acts will mean less

If you want to be remembered

this you must confess

One's causes are less important

an individual's are more false

No matter how one dances

they cannot change the waltz

Be modest to the extreme

let others take the stage

What they say and do

will become the new rage

The great man theory

is too often over-done

Combined actions of many

will determine who has won

You have had your chance

to change what people think

Quiet your voice with kindness

back away from the brink

Republicans and Democrats

are everywhere the same

They destroy what Congress tries

and both are to blame

Progress requires more sharing

the rich must not oppress the poor

Or both will be destroyed

instead of finding a cure

Independent thinking

could some day save the day

Politics and denial

are a hopeless way to pray
