DEAR BLOCKERS

VERSE 1:

You left a comment that made no sense.

I looked at it, trying to make head or tail.

I failed of course, ‘cause you weren’t trying to make meaning:

You were just having a bad case of blue devils.

A high-maintenance kid with a troubling past;

I don’t think you know how to make friendships last.

You’ve blurred the line between reality and fiction.

Don’t you see that the flaw in you is clear as crystal?

BRIDGE:

But here’s the thing: The world doesn’t revolve around you.

The faster you learn that, the better you’ll do.

CHORUS:

‘Cause the blockheads gonna block.

And the shockers gonna shock.

I don’t need you to tell me to back off.

You’re as predictable

As a mediocre, overrated fable.

But you don’t need me to tell you that, of course. (Ha, ha!)

VERSE 2:

You’re quite a lovable human, loyal and kind.

Just like a sugar-coated version of a heinous crime.

Your head’s too hot, and your words too loud;

Undermining others - does that make you feel proud?

A soccer-lover - you should learn a lesson from them:

Fix your goal before you play offense.

You fall too hard and you hurt too fast.

If you live like that, how long will you last?

BRIDGE:

But here’s the thing: You can’t live your life off pretense.

Stop mistaking “paramount indolence” for “deliberate ignorance”.

CHORUS:

‘Cause the blockheads gonna block.

And the shockers gonna shock.

I don’t need you to tell me to back off.

You’re as predictable

As a mediocre, overrated fable.

But you don’t need me to tell you that, of course. (Ha, ha!)

‘Cause the players gonna play

Their mind-numbing games.

You’re just one of them - I’ve figured that out.

You’re a sensitive little kid

With dreams too big.

I hope you know now what this is all about. (Ha, ha!)

HOOK:

But I don’t blame you one bit, you know.

After all, you have fallen down that rabbit-hole

Where the only ones are you and the ghosts from your past.

I know why you do the things you do:

Being different is not as easy as it looks.

But I’m sure one day you’ll find a road better than your chosen path.

But here’s the thing: Some things are damaged beyond repair.

I’ve accepted that, so put you in a box labeled “Farewell!” (Ha, ha!)

CHORUS:

‘Cause the blockheads gonna block.

And the shockers gonna shock.

I don’t need you to tell me to back off.

You’re as predictable

As a mediocre, overrated fable.

But you don’t need me to tell you that, of course. (Ha, ha!)

‘Cause the players gonna play

Their mind-numbing games.

You’re just one of them - I’ve figured that out.

You’re a sensitive little kid

With dreams too big.

I hope you know now what this is all about. (Ha, ha!)

And if you think there’s nothing worse than losing a friend,

Wait till you lose somebody’s respect.

Author's Note

Sally Hope
So a month back, I got my first blocker (Yay, me!). Don't worry, I'm not gonna name names *Wink*. It was a baselessly irrational and illogical misconception that I never got to clear. So I decided to remain dumb about it since I've always believed silence to be the greatest slap-in-the-face. However, the other day I was listening to Taylor Swift's "Shake It Off" and I decided to take a stand 'cause obnoxious people only get out of hand if not put in place. There're two sides to every story, you see. And this song is my side - the right side. This is not just about me, anymore. It's about everyone who's ever been judged by someone who doesn't know them.

Interesting and impressive Author's Note...with which I happen to agree. I've always been under the impression that to review a poem means to comment on the structure and quality of the write...with little to no personal affronts. That's not what we write for now is it? Love your work Sally.

About lines are facts. Truth and respect. Hard to earn, easy to lose. Thank you for sharing the excellent poetry.

My pleasure to read your words and you are welcome.
Oh, it is necessary to block a lot of people on any site. I think your song is well written and empowering. Put them in their place. They have no right to judge you or be nasty in their comments. Kudos to you.

I've had all sorts of issues on WC of people bombarding me with really inappropriate messages. One just occurred 5 minutes ago too, but I handled it well. This is so good, and I really am glad to see you get this off your chest. I'm a TSwift fan too!! :) :) Cheers*

Ouch! I have blocked people in the past. Mostly trolls and people who were just too negative. The trouble with electronic media is that is it so anonymous. We don't know who is on the other side of the keyboard. Sure, you could say you're a petite ballerina from the Bolshoi, but you could be a 500 pound sumo wrestler from Hawaii. Not that it matters. On the flip-side, that's one of the great things about the net: you can be whoever you want to be. You are not judged physically here. Rich, poor, beautiful, ugly. It doesn't really matter. We are all equal. It is probably the only true equality the human race has ever experienced. Well, until we start sending pictures of body parts.

I don't know the particulars about your situation. It has made me think about how I will treat people on this website in the future. However, I still don't like trolls or people who are too negative. Yea, the world can be full of s**t, but still, s**t fertilizes roses.

I'm talking too much. Out of character.
