A Winter of Memories

A Winter of Memories

A Poem by Sally Hope
"

You only miss the sun when it starts to snow ...

"

 A WINTER OF MEMORIES

The roses are dead. Crystal snowflakes

Adorn the abandoned home we lived in.

I stop by sometimes, to gather the pieces of my life,

And contemplate if I could've made it alright.

MAY:

When we first met, our hearts did not race.

Yet our eyes did get drawn to each other's face.

The summer wind blew; all around arose anew:

The only broken dolls were me and you.

JUNE:

You - oh, why? - were the only thing in my mind.

The raindrops fell, but I flew high.

Touches were soft, kisses were grace.

The distance was closed - our hearts raced.

JULY:

The world welcomed us, and we welcomed the world.

The nights were a harmony, the days were a blur.

When the glorious lights lit up the night sky,

I saw my tinted images reflected in your eyes.

AUGUST:

The late summer wind blew in the dust and leaves.

We pretended we were still in bliss.

Holding hands; nonconformist stands;

We were treading on unmapped lands.

SEPTEMBER:

The first time I cried; the first time you lied;

The first time I let the roses die.

The autumn onset turned the green leaves red,

And I uttered the words that I'll always regret.

OCTOBER:

Autumn brought tears, and incarnation of our fears,

As the unwanted, unasked for, inevitable neared.

I saw the leaves fall, I heard the last call,

I gathered the letters and the broken dolls.

NOVEMBER:

When we last met, our gazes never scraped.

We neither felt love, nor any hate.

The November nights were the loneliest time,

But the tears didn't fall - my eyes were dry.

DECEMBER:

The roses are dead. Crystal snowflakes

Adorn the abandoned home we lived in.

I stop by sometimes, to gather the pieces of my life,

And contemplate if I could've made it alright.

Sally Hope
My first attempt at a love poetry (though it turned out to be sad in the end because, you know, I'm terrible with happy endings!). Hope you like it. Suggestions would be most welcome.

The reality is there are less happy endings than sad and I would rather read a sad believable ending than a far fetched happy one. I liked the monthly format and the emotion was real and engaging. There are on guarantees of happiness in life, it is what you make of it and are willing to invest into it so I find your poems ending perfect :~)

I "suggest" you continue writing! Sad ending, surely!...love tends to end that way. I enjoyed the way it was broken into stanzas. Occasionally sadness may be sublime, I relished the pain! S

Seasons change and love evolves. A very lovely piece as you search your feelings of love over time.

Thank you for taking the time to read this. Your heartfelt review means a lot.
Very good. I like the way you used the media as part of the poem. Colors and fonts add to the power of the words. The computer can be a malleable canvas for our minds.

The use of the seasons is a good metaphor for lost love. I got dumped in the Spring. So much for sunshine and lollipops.

Very captivating poetry. U sound lika sexy storyteller. Damn, u almost got me feeling like: "Oh... who's she - the abandon flower of every season?" Ah, very touching. Thoughtfully pen'd up! U capture all the real nice feelings of ur tormented heart in words very well - the heart that's been in love, once, a long ago, but now what's left... is just a storehouse of scratched memories... belonged to capricious love. Sounds interesting. Ah.. ev'n i guess, u sound way interesting to get heart drunk... xcross the wall of ur artistic pages. Umm... nice. Keep up the gr8 work!

Looking 4ward to reading ur work!

This is absolutely beautiful. It was such a great pleasure to read. I could feel the feelings of the person. I wanted to know more and I felt completely intrigued and drawn into the story. This is a wonderful love story (who says they always need a happy ending). This was really unique and was a great read! Love that you tried something new.

You're welcome! And they do say a story that has a happy ending is one that hasn't finished yet :p x
"Love Poetry" - Our perceptions are unique to our own minds and life experience. Such Poetry tends to tell us an author's thoughts OR our own. And when we are very lucky - both.

I appreciate the illusions of time and the allusions of "life happens - somehow".
