The Beautiful and Simple Things

The Beautiful and Simple Things

A Chapter by Salix_Alba

You took me to a field
And picked me a flower
Told me inhale its scent
Because it made everything beautiful and simple

We sat beneath a tree
And thanked it for our breath
Hanging there was its fruit
Giving a unfamiliar sweetness to our bitter hearts

As I lay in the grass
Watching it sway in the wind
The reeds just beyond whistled
And the melody made all listening souls dance

The warmth of the sun kissed my skin
The lovely sun set over the land
And colors mixed as if paint
And we enjoyed the small moment of melted crayons in the sky

Then, our sparkling stars came out to play
And our fingers traced the sky
Stories told upon laps long ago
It makes me want to be small and innocent once again

But now I’m older
These things become harder to find every day
Yet I continue to search
Because if everyone forgets
We won’t have these beautiful and simple things anymore
