Young and usefulA Story by Sajini IsraelYou can be youthful and useful
History has proven, that contributions to humanity is never dependent on the magnitude of our ages. Most of the greatest men in the world started carving a nitch for themselves in the society early in life.
Martin Luther King Jr started planning to eradicate Black segregation when he was less than eighteen. Henry Ford was twelve years old, when he started assembling and repairing wrist watches. Albert Einstein was fifteen years old, when he started thinking about the speed of light. Michael Jackson was nine years old, when he started performing publicly. They succeeded tremendously because they developed a sense of purpose and started chasing it early in life. We will never be awarded for being older than everyone in the world but we will for thinking farther than everyone. There is yoruba adage that says 'Ibanuje lojo ori, Olowo Lagba.' It means age can be a source of sorrow, but achievements will always be celebrated. Many Africans have resorted to perpetual repetition of seniority claims as an opium for mediocrity. The fact remains that age gives way when achievement is present. Those who are contended with only age advancements, will be forced to bow to young achievers. So when they ask me 'where are you rushing to? '. I always reply 'what are you waiting for? '. Excellence is not a respecter of age. If we chase it we would definitely catch it. We are never too young to start making our impact, for we are most useful when we are youthful. © 2019 Sajini Israel |
