Distant   

I’m not strong enough to carry
both of us, it seems
I’m having trouble breathing here
it’s just like in my dream
The one that keeps on waking me
it’s shaking me and breaking me
and leaving me here with questions of
just how to breathe
in this heavy air when all I care about
is getting through the day
I’m not strong enough to hold you up
when all of my energy
is spent, on holding my eyes open
and keeping my legs moving
on a path to find a way
 to keep from just existing
in this place and life I don’t like
I’m sorry I seem distant
but in my mind I’m all alone
with thoughts of leaving you behind
and starting this trip all over
in another place where I can
find a way to find some peace inside
this cold and lonely frozen heart

I caught a wave today
that’s dragging me so far away           
from everything that I thought that we could be
Caught up in the undertow
of everything I thought I knew
It keeps dragging me so far away
from everything I thought that we would be
I don’t want to drown in this place
It’s not your fault, you met me
on a day that I thought I could change
all s**t I don’t like about me
But I caught a wave today
that’s dragging me back to a place
where I feel safe and all alone
