You're Not You

You're Not You

A Poem by Amanda Granger

Because you're not you
When the world seems so unfamiliar
You're not you
On the dark days when you struggle
just to smile
You're not you
When you're alienated by the happiness
of others
When so much hope vanishes as though
it was a myth
You're not you
When you look in the mirror
and feel your skin sinking
like quicksand into the crevices
and cracks that lie within your mask
You're not you
When waking up feels like running
a marathon
And when the things that filled you
so much inspiration--
You can't do them anymore.
You feel regret, a tinge of shame
A darker shadow erasing every
Silver-lining.
You're not you
When the dark circles under your eyes
and the scars on your legs
erase the times you laughed
until you cried because now
your eyes just don't seem to dry
because the reason people just don't
see you anymore - know you anymore
relate to you - because who are you
anymore? - is because
You're not you
when you're depressed.

a lot of us can relate to this, how we have to, or choose to, pretend and wear the social mask...a lot here to think about.
