struck by lightning 6 feet under

to pick up beer and dirty
magazines and sleazy numbers
from restroom stalls and the slime
you leave behind is enough to make my skin
crawl; I didn’t ask
for your number.

about how fine I look or how pretty I am.

If you saw me at the end of the day
fighting and trying just to be okay
you’d see the truth, the reality
that I’m not fine and that’s not me.

on this endless concrete conveyor belt
we call life, roasting out on the sidewalk
acting as my only bread-winner, not all talk,
looking tired and weary from life’s welts,
