Etude of Transition

Etude of Transition

A Poem by Amanda Granger
"

A poem about the transition from summer to fall (my second favorite season after winter).

"

A swirling breeze stirs in the trees above;
The climate seems to shift like the sand
Whirling as it passes through the hourglass
And awakens all with the faint coo of a dove.

Soft shades caress bare skin and draw
Lines and connect dots between the shadows
Falling on the rippling waves of green and yellow
Beneath the summer oaks turned birch for fall.

Eyes alight with the light of a new day awaken
Desires to play in leaves collecting ‘neath boughs
That crackle softly underfoot and find their way
Into every part of life, bed sheets and coats out-shaken
 -

Coffee and cocoa brewed to the tune of chirping
Squirrels and birds a-twitter with the shift of clouds
As wind, earth’s life and breath, changes directions
And brings new scents of new seasons of interpreting

Warm and cool but never too hot, the colors cover,
Cover the grounds and fill the skies and hues of eyes, lakes,
Wings of birds migrating overhead, searching for nesting elsewhere
While some pass whose hearts are drawn home to a lover.

The hum of humming birds leaving their nests and
The crescendo of laughter, the diminutive of sighs
The tempo of the new winds shifting skies and bringing
New notes and trills on the wind in earth’s greatest stand
 -

The orchestral patter of the rain’s tears at night like
Percussions on the roofs of children trying to sleep
And lovers trying to keep quiet as the heat builds
Within, following as late summer lightning cracks and strikes,

Strikes chords within all our hearts and soothes
The ear with melodies from last year and the following,
Ad infinitum of calm virtuosity, cool and favorable changes
Reaching every heart, keys changing deft and smooth

Well-rehearsed, the earth knows her etudes well,
And quivering leaves and beaten lakes whisper
As animals gather as well to concur and debate
What the next season brings: only time will tell.

These verses brought about a breathtaking masterpiece of color, sound and sense. A symphony woven, invoking such a rich visual scene that I could not help but be pulled into the breezes of time. Like a leaf on the wind, I was carried along upon this epic journey. Your piece was very much enjoyed! Two Thumbs Up!

Amazing ink!
