Serendipity

Serendipity

A Poem by Amanda Granger
"

Inspired by someone special and my love for astronomical imagery and symbolism.

"

I would drive across the Milky Way
To run my fingers through your hair.
Your love travels faster than the rays
Of the Sun; the speed of light
Would lose the race.

Hearts pulled like planets
From great distances, we meet
In the middle of the universe
And collide into the Big Bang;
Our love is as infinite as the matter

In the galaxy: recreating, recombining
Recognizing the uniqueness of this
Moment, this point in space-time
As the universe pulsates and expands
Around us; we gather the stars,

Light and dust and dark matter;
We are one beneath the Sun
Though we might bend space-time
Till it breaks; still two hearts, two
Molecules, two systems remain

Dual yet whole when found and bound
By gravity’s push and pull, full
Of mystery and wonder invisible
To those who surround us and marvel
At our light, merged at a distance to form

One star, one beacon of hope in the sky
As we rotate one another and grow
So wondrous what the universe can show
And envious comets leave as past us they fly
Unable to disturb our union, for gravity

Ordained this communion, long ago it seems,
And all because we went the distance
And didn’t resist love’s fateful pull.

There is a Joplin video floating around YouTube.. a performance at the Roxy I think, this reminds me a lot of the lighting effects during one of the songs. It expands and contracts and swirls in multi-colored patterns of imagery that pull us into the mind trip of trying to describe what the body perceives; something inherently fraught with danger. And yet, this seems to pull it off for the most part. There are the random stray collisions of dark matter but on the whole we come out none the worse for wear from having been illuminated by the fate-synchronous mental radiations of love in this piece.
