A Chapter by Attoliia

Year 2027- A.G.A

We walked tirelessly through the deteriorating city, the buildings were crumbling and looked as if they’d give out and fall on us at any second. The pavement was cracked and broken; the few people who were outside or even alive wore gas masks. This was just at the entrance of the city, the very hazardous parts that did require anyone who weren’t of mutated genes to wear a gas mask, which is unless they either wanted to die or end up like the others. The suns beam seemed to be less of a threat, as long as we kept these masks on.

“Jess, do you think we’ll be able to find a decent place to rest?” Kalyn asked me in a tired hushed tone that was masked by the gas masks. I shrugged as I looked on further as we continued our walk deeper into the town. Further in we saw more people that weren’t wearing gas masks, which gave us the ok to take ours off. Pulling our gas masks off I looked at Kalyn, her long white hair fell to her face, her golden eyes screamed out that she wanted to rest. We continued our walk down the run down town, passing by folks that looked as if they were half dead or sick. These were the very unfortunate, they were lucky enough to survive the attack but not enough to completely survive in the harsh toxic air that surrounded us, even though it was far denser then the entrance and other unlucky places such as the ones we were currently in. But the only ones who seemed the least effective by all this tragedy was the children, a few passed us by giggling and playing without a care in the world.

“Well maybe this will be good place?” I asked a bit unsure as we looked at the raggedy pitiful excuse for a hotel of what still stood. We walked in to meet an old man, his hair falling out, and his different colored rash covering his body, he had torn dirty clothes as he looked up at us trying to fix his broken glasses.

“Hello ladies, what can I do for you today?” he asked in a sickly tone that was followed by a gut retching cough. I rubbed the back of my neck as I looked at the man, while Kalyn looked at the dirty and falling apart hotel.

“A room please, just for today and no need for food or bath.” I said as part of the ceiling came crashing down a few feet from us, making Kalyn turn around and pull out her two guns out of instinct. “Not like you’d have it anyway.” I mumbled, ignoring the feeling of distrust of the hotels current state.

Kalyn threw her herself on the old bed letting out a loud sigh of relief. I looked around the hotel room with a somewhat pleased but more or so dull look. It wasn’t much, but it was going to have to do. I looked at Kalyn with a small smirk as I shook my head at her.

I threw my large tan backpack on the wooden floor next to the dingy and dusty bed; I leaned into the creaky wooden chair that sat in front of a dusty, cracked mirror. I kicked my feet up on the desk, my long red combat boots tapped as I whistled a tune; I pulled up my burgundy sock that was falling down my leg, even though it interfered with my holster of my dagger, only resulting in my long elbow length black and red fingerless gloves to sag as well. I sighed looked at my tired self in the mirror. My tan skin seemed to get darker thanks to the burning hot sun from traveling here after a month of walking in the desert and mountain climbing. My tired black eye scanned my outfit, my white tube top was slightly dirty thanks to the trip here, and my black shorts were a bit dusty as well. I stared intently at my black eye patch covering my left eye that was designed with a gold flame under the small keyhole. I grinded my teeth as a small taunting thought of my past came to mind, as I flipped my light red hair that kept in a messy ponytail out of my face. I seemed to have leaned too far back for my black sheathed katana was pressing too hard on my back; I pulled out my two twin pistols that were hidden well at my sides in the holsters beneath my burgundy sleeveless coat, I nicknamed my twin pistols. The black one was Ebony and the silver was Ivory, Kalyn said I was insane for naming my guns, but who cares what she thinks?!‏

I then began to reload the empty guns from our last battle, I slightly turned to Kalyn to see her still throwing her knife up in the air and catching it, thus repeating the sequence. She looked out the window and then laughed. "I remember when we were that age. Although our idea of fun was throwing knives and practicing shooting..." She said pushing back her constant out of control pure white hair. I blinked at the statement and then smiled giving a small nod. Even though I couldn’t remember my past from the age of 12 and up till now, I remember spending all my time with Kalyn‏.

But my smile soon faded as the past ran through my mind once more. It was me at age 12, I was much smaller than I was now, my long hair was shorter it was styled into a boyish cut. There was blood everywhere as I screamed with endless tears streaming down my face, I was holding dearly onto my left eye and a black katana.

“Don't worry; we will give them what they deserve. Get some rest; we've come a very long way.” Kalyn said dragging me out of my nightmarish thoughts. I stared for only a few seconds before giving her a nod, she laid back on the bed after taking off all her weapons and her coat, and slowly but surely she drifted off to sleep. I slouched back into the couch as I stared off into the large gaping hole above us and made a scowl.

“Coulda got a better room at least.” I mumbled.‏

I yawned loudly, allowing everyone who passed by to look at my teeth, Kalyn made a disgusted frown as she stared at me. I raised an eyebrow as I gave her a questioned look that she was giving me. But I knew well where she was going with it.
“Jess, you shouldn’t yawn so un-lady like. It will drive all the men away from you!” she said I rolled my eyes at her, Kalyn was more fond with men than I was, I wasn’t calling her a w***e or anything it was just that men preferred her over me and if they were attractive, she’d take advantage of it. She was more girly than I was, which was why she always tried and get my ‘womanly’ gestures out. I’ll admit I was quite jealous from time to time but then again I was never the girly type, so I didn’t care as much. Once again I made a rather, shall I say un-lady like gesture again by making a scowl and growling.

“Psh, like I give a damn! All I need is Ebony and Ivory!” I yelled crossing my arms as we walked the path of the streets. Kalyn threw her arms up and ran up to catch up with me as she gave me a stern look that was quickly replaced with a face that was trying to ‘teach’ me a ‘life’ lesson. Her finger was pointed up as her eyes were closed as she gave a smile.

“A lady never burps, and scowls in the face of a man!” she says I smirked as I allowed her to finally catch up and now walked by my side. I nodded acting as if I was impressed.

“Oh? But Kalyn last time you were acting so ‘lady like’, you were having a burping fiasco after drinking all that beer.” I said with mischievous smile, she almost instantly stopped walking and I snickered.‏ “And then when they ran out you made quite the ‘attractive’ face as well!” I said laughing harder. I could hear her growling and it made me start to take one last final hit at her. Oh but please be quite the lady and not make too much of a scene, OK?” I asked opening the door of the bar that the hotel manager suggested. She gave me a quick glare before entering; I smiled since I was always proud of making my partner angry at my crude jokes towards her.

As we entered the bar loud chatter ceased and all eyes were now on us. Kalyn decided to go to the other side of the bar, and like moths to a flame a crowd of men followed.

I walked to the bar and ordered myself a drink, I could hear Kalyn clearly:

“Which one of you fellows wanna buy me a drink?” she asked seductively as she flipped her flowing white hair, and gave a wink to the crowd of men that swarmed her, and rushed over to the bar where I resided throwing their goods and whatever money that was still valuable to the now destroyed world. I shook my head as I sipped on my glass of beer once the men ran to bring their hopeful drinks to her. As I chugged down my large beverage I could sense a set of eyes on me, I turned in the direction and saw a middle aged man staring at me with eyes widen. I sat the empty bottle down as the male bartender began to refill it.

“Wanna tell me what’cha lookin at?” I asked in a harsh mutter the man was pointing at me, his skinny finger trembling with his mouth gaped open.

“Y-you are the hero: Anarchy right? And that girl is Serenity! You two have come to help us right?!” he asked my eyebrow raised as I made a real confused mixed with a very un-lady like face as Kalyn would say.

“Honestly, where do you people come up with these names? And why the hell do I have to be Anarchy?!! I'm not that mean damn it!” I semi- yelled at the man. He only grinned a toothless grin while he laughed a happy cackle, only resulting in my face falling into a small pout and a glare coming his way. He looked toward his drink with a small sad frown as he stared at it.

“Ever since that outbreak the government put out, they’ve been taking our civilians away and threatening us with those mutants!” he said tightening his grip on the cup I glanced at his way but stared at the glass that was still being refilled. “Someone has to put an end to them!” he yelled turning to me with a pleading and raged filled face. I swirled my glass of liquor and put most of my weight onto my hand that my chin rested in.

“Listen buddy, I honestly don’t give a damn about everyone’s sappy stories, I got my own vendetta against them and I don’t have the time to fight everyone’s enemy because they all have something against the government.” I said in a low mumble. He stared at me and his face fell and gave a sad nod as he paid his drink and walked slowly out of the bar, I gave a small sneer because I felt a tad bit sad for the guy and everyone that had to deal with this bull crap.

By this time Kalyn was getting more attention and was playing pool with the guys, pretending as if she didn’t know how to play and bet the men for their goods and money. I sighed knowing well that she was going to end up with all the men’s money.

“Everyone! Get out now! The government is starting another raid!!!” the man from before yelled running back into the bar to run off once again, panic set in as everyone screamed and ran out while pushing everyone out of the way. I didn’t budge as I continued to drink my drink. Kalyn was still playing pool as she began to put the tip of the pool stick onto the cue chalk. A group of the army’s soldiers that wore black and dark navy blue futuristic body armor with a large helmet that covered up their face and made them look as though they were some future robot solider. There were at least 8 that rushed inside, some were grabbing people violently and throwing them outside to their large trucks that sat outside with other soldiers that were shooting everything in sight. I felt my teeth grind at the sudden disgust that these solders were doing to these innocent folks.

Three men surrounded Kalyn as they asked her to stop playing pool and trying not to be obvious as they were secretly checking her out, she only bended over to continue to play her game of pool, ignoring the men. Two stood behind one man that stood in front of me, all guns were pointed at everyone.

“Hey! You there woman! Get up now!” he yelled I rolled my eyes at the command and continued to drink my beer. He snarled and pointed his gun at me and yelled louder “Hey get up!” he yelled. I slowly turned to him with a sour face, giving the man a look up and down and then continuing to drink my beer as though I hadn’t had a care in the world. The man walked closer to me and sat down at the barstool next to mine, I could feel a grin under that mask of his. He peered in closer to my face and then looked at the wall in front of us to only quickly look back at me.

“Hey! Aren’t you two the girls?!” he yelled looking at me; I only blinked and looked away. I didn’t have time for this s**t. And this guy was really getting on my last nerves. “Hey! You hear me?!” he asked yelling louder “You are coming with me!” he yelled putting his hand on my shoulder. I muttered incoherent words. “Huh? What’d ya say?!” he asked. I grabbed his hand and slammed it to table and took out my dagger to then stab my dagger into his hand, he screeched out in pain as his blood flowed out the wound.

“I said: get yer dirty a*s hands off me you f****r!” I yelled the two men and the men by Kalyn jolted and pointed their guns at me yelling at me to move away slowly from their partner before they would have to shoot me. In an instant Kalyn swiftly took the pool stick and wacked the guy in the face on her left who then fell to the ground grabbing his face, and smacked the other guy in the stomach to then proceed to kick him back up to her level and shoot him in the head with her machine duel guns.

She turned to the other man who still clung to his face in pain while on his knees, and shot him in the head as well and without looking shot the man behind her who was about to shoot her, killing him instantly. While I quickly threw the barstool at the two men who were caught off guard at Kalyn’s swift attacks. I unsheathed my black katana and jumped on the man who I stabbed, flying into the air above the two men who looked up at me in shock and chopped both their heads off.

“How did that guy know it was us?” I asked in an annoyed tone while looking at Kalyn, she pointed to the wall and I followed to see two wanted posters of me and her reading: “Anarchy, Wanted dead or alive for $10,000,000,000.” And “Serenity, Wanted dead or alive for $10,000,000,000.” I made a blank expression

“Ooooh.” I said as Kalyn face palmed me.

Bullets began to fly in the bar, we got down, covering ourselves from the blasts, Kalyn got out her sniper. “I’m going up on the roof, I’ll cover you.” She said I gave a huge smirk and nodded; I got up from my spot and bolted out the door away from the loud bullets and breaking bottles. Men were scattered about outside and the people who were not dead already crouched to the ground as they tried to cover themselves. I smirked swinging my blade allowing the blood of the soldiers to fall to the ground; guns were all pointed at me.

“Drop the weapon and get down on your knees!” one of the soldiers yelled. I tilted my head, my smirk not once leaving my face. I took a few steps toward the crowd of men “D-Don’t take another step!” another one yelled. I obeyed and stopped walking. BANG! The man who ordered me to stop walking was shot in the head and fell to the ground, the men watched in shock and I took this opportunity to run towards a small group of men and slash them easily with my sword, I dodged the bullets that flew to me by jumping away at an inhuman speed. I then rammed a guy in the head with the hilt of my sword and slashed off his arms, Kalyn kept taking out men who were swarming behind me and trying to shoot me from a far.

When we were together like this. There was no one who could stop us. My maniacal grin became glued to my face as I slashed each and every last one of them….
