Life

Life is fun and silly, free

My life is good, it's plain to see

I have my friends, my parents too

But others' lives can be more blue.

Some don't have homes or faithful friends

These broken lives I'd like to mend

If I could stomach just one day

In their lives, could I pave the way?

If I gave up this life I have

For a quick twenty-four hours

In exchange for these people's health

This is my appeal to the powers.

I'd like to help all those in need

But once I pay my rightful share

I'd expect them to help themselves

Out of the mucky, trash-filled lair.

I wonder why the author of this writing stopped rhyming during the second half of the poem. Also the ending keeps me thinking, was the "trash-filled liar" expression used as a reference to the main character? If so, then everything written in this poem is but a lie, the main character has no real wishes of goodness for others. Then again, it says something about exchange for those people's health, which makes me believe that the main character might have been sick, am I too far from being right? I like this kind of pieces, which I can't fully understand, great piece of writing. Good job.
