The Confusion Song

The Confusion Song

A Poem by Sagemind
"

A somehow funny, somehow sad sort of thing I came up with.

"

The Confusion Song

I trace the steps back to the front

I look down at the sky,

The sun shines proudly in the night,

I stop to wonder why.

I turn my back to see my sides,

This heat is freezing cold.

This water is too dry for me

It carries too much mold.

The fish come gasping up for breath

They take deep gulps of air,

I sit down and begin to talk

To those that are not there.

The waves crash down upon the sky

They shower me with fire,

And as I stare into the sand

I see a burning pyre.

A single tear rolls down my cheek

I must lay down and go.

I must run far and short to leave,

Escape this burning snow.

I know it's strange, but don't judge too harshly. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, right?

I really enjoyed reading this. I had to go over it twice, because when I first read it, I thought "What? I have no idea what I just read," but the second time I read it, I was actually quite impressed.

To me, it seemed like the piece represented the inner struggle of human beings trying to make sense of the absurdity of life. It expressed a lot of existentialist views, in my opinion. In some parts of the poem, I was reminded of two symptoms of schizophrenia; confusion and paranoia.

Very well done. This poem shows insight that is very mature for your age.

I enjoyed it immensely; however, I am very curious to see some free-verse poetry from you. If you have any posted, send me the links to them in a message. I would be very interested in reading them.
