Achievement Mongering

A poem about the phenomenon known as--ahem--Achievement Whoring, but I put it as a different name in the title. Basically, players scrape to get any Achievement they can, thus boosting their Gamerscore.

Achievement Mongering

 

He gives an evil laugh and says,

"Good, another five points!"

His score is now in the millions

The highest in the joint.

He's number one on all the boards

Game clans worship his name,

They don't know that secretly, he's

wrongly been given fame.

All those Achievements, all that score--

It comes in groups of five,

Like ones for pressing Start buttons--

Those make him feel alive.

He balks from anything like work

"Reach Level 5? No way!

"I'd rather get Achievements for

"Living one ingame day!"

And one day he logs into Live

And and sees that he's been banned.

He gives a scream of agony

Now how will he feel like a man?
