The Obvious Things

Sam rolled his truck over the dolls that his friend Lucy had just so meticulously set up. She let out a yell as her work was destroyed. "Sammy, why'd you do that?"

"If I don't keep this truck going at at least sixty miles an hour, it'll blow up!" Sam said, repeating something he had heard in a grown-up movie once. "Your dolls were just in the way," he said as an afterthought.

"Well guess what, you get to clean it up now!" said Lucy, sniffing in a way that she had seen the grown-up ladies on TV do when they were mad. "So get going!"

Ignoring her, Sam kept on trucking, smashing his truck into her other playthings. When he reached her dollhouse, however, he had a problem. His truck was rather small and the dollhouse was rather big. So he thought of a plan. "All right, Lucy, you ready for Darbie's Dreamhouse to come down?"

"It's Barbie, and no!" said Lucy, running over to try to stop him. But Sam had already shoved his truck in the direction of the dollhouse. He sat back to watch the show.

The truck smashed into the house, blasting through the door and taking out the front supports. This, in turn, caused poor Barbie's Dreamhouse to tip forward, smashing the truck and detaching its front wheels. It came down to rest on its front, still shuddering from the impact. Both children sat in stunned silence, one with a huge grin on his face, the other with a look of horror. Eventually Lucy and Sam went over to assess the damage.

Sam wasn't too disappointed with how the truck turned out, considering it a necessary sacrifice for such great entertainment. Lucy, however, had a different viewpoint on the matter.

"You ruined my Dreamhouse! Mommy's gonna have to get me a new one, and she said each one costs..." Lucy's face screwed up as she struggled to remember. "Fiffywun dollars!"

Sam laughed. "This is no Dreamhouse, Lucy. This is a Nightmarehouse!"

And, the tension of the situation relieved, both children laughed until they cried.

End.

I tried to paint the picture of two media-influenced kids, one a bit bratty, the other a bit prissy. Voila!
