I will be here when she wakes

I will be here when she wakes

A Poem by Saffy

The door creaks as I enter,
I stand in silence gazing,
With each breath she draws, my heart skips a beat.

Her eye lids flicker,
I watch her fingers curl, towards her palms,
With each breath she draws, my heart skips a beat.

I hold my breath,
Her skin glistens, reflecting the moonlight,
With each breath she draws, my heart skips a beat.

Outside her room the air is cold and heavy,
The rain whispers her name,
With each breath she draws, my heart skips a beat

Whilst I look on I see her skip through an open meadow,
Dreaming of untold adventures, and humming an unwritten song
With each breath she draws, my heart skips a beat.

I look out into the night sky and wonder
Who will I be to this child?
A mother, a parent, a saviour?
With each breath, my heart skips a beat.

I look across at her peaceful smile, her power and her promise,
I will be here when she wakes.
