InvitationsA Poem by LalaQuick, grab the vacuum cleaner Let it inhale all the dirt and dust Someone is coming to visit To the place you exhibit You don't have to do all this Yet you feel like you must Hurry and do the dishes Clear the kitchen of its mess You shouldn't care or even stress But they might think of you less When all you want to do is impress So if someone is stopping by your address You still go through that cleaning process That's the thing about life And inviting someone in Not just to your home But also see beneath your skin To the body that's your temple To the house of your mind Not a fault they should find A flawless image you want to resemble Thinking everybody is judgmental You want to show a soul that's perfected Without flaws you wish to be corrected Wanting to be what they expected Due to fear of being rejected The real us we keep disguised An ideal image we have advertised Aiming to be spotless and organized So no one is surprised and leaves When we all know deep in our hearts We should be loved for all of our parts The clean but also the cluttered Yet we're afraid of our mess being discovered We hesitate to invite people into our space Their entrance seems like a threat Because we think the place behind our face Is simply not good enough yet My situation is also not what I want it to be With messy parts I don't want you to see My mind isn't clear, peace isn't near Not as calm and collected as I appear Slow and steady is my style So it might take you a while Might have to knock a few times more Before I'll finally open my door But once I give you that key You can always come visit me
