Metaphor Mindset

Metaphor Mindset

A Poem by Lala

I have this idea in my mind
But it's far from refined
It's actually still quite a mess
I don't know if I can express it with success
But if I don't try you'll never know I guess
It's a comparison I want to show
It might not even make sense
But enough with this suspense
Let my message for you commence
There's something weird about traveling
It's something I find baffling
Because when we do, you know what's happening?
Wandering in a city where everything seems pretty
Examining architecture you appreciate
Finding nature that can liberate
Walking on pavements with an unfamiliar view
On streets where every day locals pass through
Used to the surroundings that you find astounding
And unlike where you reside
You love everything the city can provide
But for them they are nothing new
Every town has its own personality
But for them it has become a normality
An every day reality that has lost its originality
And about this I contemplate
Trying to translate and connect
To reflect and project
This metaphor upon you, my real subject
You think you're not perfect
That your body is just a vessel
And that your face is nothing special
Nothing extraordinary for anyone to see
I disagree because you're mesmerizing to me
Every time you think you're boring
I can't stop listening to you speak
Everything you find normal
Is in my eyes unique
But you're so used to your outer shell
Making you think your exterior is inferior
But just because someone else is beautiful
That doesn't mean you can't be as well
Nobody can achieve perfection
So stop hiding from your reflection
Yes you're just another person on this earth
But stop letting that influence your self worth
Stop comparing and finding flaws that need repairing
Quit creating burdens that you shouldn't be bearing
Stop telling yourself lies and open your eyes
Because maybe then you'll see I can't stop staring
I hope you get the message that needed sharing
That you understand my traveling thought
Of me being a visitor visiting all you got
Appreciating things that you cannot
Maybe once you did but you simply forgot
Just like the locals being in a place
Surrounded by beauty they can no longer retrace
In this situation you're my vacation
I am the tourist invading your space
With a smile on my face I explore
Always discovering more I can adore
Every exploration is met with fascination
Finding information exceeding my expectation
And I hope through this observation
You will come to the realization
On your streets I'll always want to roam
Stay with me, so I'll never have to go home
