Bedtime StoriesA Poem by LalaToday we talked about story telling Dwelling on the memories of fairy tales Sat in the kitchen talking about fiction Yet the reality of the past I recall so vividly Instantly I experienced an imagery so visually I remember all the details of back then When it was time for me to go to bed I didn't dread this moment but instead I was excited because I knew The time arrived where I could read to you Young me would get settled Felt safe under my fluffy blanket Nestled myself under your arm Knowing no harm could be done by anyone With you sitting on my bedside A special kind of affection you feel inside A type of protection only some can provide It's what can be given by fathers and mothers To their little life wonders hidden under the covers One of us would grab the book I took a long look before I could decide On the story that felt qualified I reminisce this routine between you and me It sounds sappy but I remember how I was so happy I loved reading and I loved you listening When I read out loud it made me feel proud Because it made me feel like I was interesting Seeing this scene through my adult eyes I now realize how special it was It being a different kind of way to socialize for us I will always embrace these memories From my thoughts they will never depart They will forever hold a special place in my heart So when I have a family of my own I want this love for them to be known To experience what I enjoyed so much Therefore I will let them read to me Open the door to an imaginary world together Where people live happily ever after Or where they learn lessons about life These messages will be a blessing in disguise But the view in my mind I enjoy most to see The idea that already means so much to me The chapter I hope to start and often replay Is that they will read bedtime stories to you Just how I used to do back in the day
