Pain Causing Pain

Everything we go through has a meaning

And these experiences shape us all

Painful memories we cannot escape

Their impact affecting how we interact

Fighting our demons behind a wall

Often leading to our downfall

Burying thoughts we've never shown

Thinking it's best battling them alone

It's a trend many of us execute

It's man's most destructive attribute

I wish people realize what's at stake

Nobody is perfect but please reflect

Become aware that this has an effect

An indirect impact on the ones that care

This defense that makes no sense

This shield to keep feelings concealed

With pride making you hide the dark side

But meanwhile you create a minefield

And your own battle becomes a shared warfare

It's something I see all around me

And it's time to set my mind free

I no longer want to sit here quietly

Let me put my words out there finally

I hear you think, what is this all about? 

I hear you contemplate but just wait

When I'm done, your mind will be set straight

Let these words sink in because without a doubt

When you finish reading my pleading

I'll have provided you with the missing link

And you'll understand why my heart is bleeding

A lot of thinking I have done

About why people hurt a loved one

Why people cause mayhem to those closest to them

Why our own baggage causes damage

To the people we hold dear

Logical reasoning is nowhere near

There's only one way I can explain
So let me end this with the following thought
Whether we want to or not

We hurt the ones we love because of our pain
