How Are YouA Poem by LalaLet's discuss a question One mentioned so frequently Due to common decency Asked whenever we meet or call When we greet and say 'how are you' We reply but often don't answer at all Our response is hardly ever true We keep a front so nobody has a clue About feelings we don't want to get into Let's discuss this question right now Hopefully somehow I can convey my view And you'll understand when I ask how are you I truly want to know what you're going through Often we don't answer truthfully Because usually it isn't the correct opportunity I know the moment isn't always right To expose what you think about at night What you feel when distractions are out of sight There's a time and place for all of this To talk about the bliss that you miss To tell your tale and unveil your struggle To describe the emotions that you juggle But even if the moment is right I doubt you'll expose your inner fight With a false answer you'll reply Pleading the fifth to get it over with Saying you're fine is the go to line But I know this is a myth Because the eyes never lie The deeper the wound The more private the pain The deeper the wound The more hidden it will remain But some of my thoughts Can understand your brain Some of my storm Can recognize your rain So explain the weather of your mind And maybe it is peace you can find I hope you will take off that mask When I pose the question we all ask So next time when I say how are you I hope you'll give me an answer that is true
