Modern LoveA Poem by LalaWhen I hear the word love There's a few things I think of Everyone has their own philosophy But honestly, most do not think consciously Many think love is blind but what I find It is humankind that cannot see Thoughts are overflowing inside of me These are my views so you might refuse To see the truth in what I have to say But I'm going to share my state of mind anyway These days it's a hype to ask about one's type Dating is based on love at first swipe Reducing people to subjective facts Caring more about how someone looks Rather than how someone acts Physical attractions mean more than actions Craving satisfactions instead of mental transactions Choosing a good time over a good thing Preferring a fling due to the stress love can bring But people insist that true love exists Yet you're dismissed if you do not fit their checklist A perfect person is created in their head The internet shaping a certain mindset A standard almost impossible to achieve A fiction that has become an addiction Reality cannot live up to someone's fantasy So people leave if they dislike what they perceive Wishing they dated a fabricated image instead We all desire a soulmate to admire So people wait until it's this love they acquire They search and explore Trying to find someone to adore On a quest to find nothing but the best But it's this type of thinking I detest There's nothing wrong with having thoughts About the type of person to whom you belong But that's not the point I want to get across Soulmates are not found, they are made Love is a battleground you need to invade It's a crusade in which you need to invest To keep your interest so you can stay obsessed With the person you are with Who shows you true love isn't a myth Who walks besides you and guides you Who helps you become a better someone Together you grow and together you fade So I speak from my heart when I say If it's love's journey we together start It will be you and me until death do us part
