A Different You

A Different You

A Poem by Lala

The moment I walked through the door
I noticed you were not there anymore
The atmosphere was not very pleasant
Because you were no longer present
Confronted with an emotionless physique
As I placed a kiss on your cold cheek
The body I saw no longer belonged to you
The person left who I once knew
The expression on your face was gone
As the light of your life was no longer on
Although I am okay with this inevitable end
I wish it was your life I could extend
I wish it was you who I could hold
And listen to the stories you once told
I wanted to hear your soothing voice
But I no longer had that choice
I wanted to feel your safe embrace
But you were no longer in this space
I missed you then and I miss you still
Missing you I always will

Such a sad thing losing someone you love to dementia.. I watched a friend go through this with her dad and it broke my heart to watch the sadness on her face after her visits.. You grasped this piece and brought it out like living it. I felt like I lived it again..

heart drenched in love, such a lovely write.
Confronted with an emotionless physique
As I placed a kiss on your cold cheek
The body I saw no longer belonged to you
The person left who I once knew
The expression on your face was gone
As the light of your life was no longer on
Although I am okay with this inevitable end
I wish it was your life I could extend
I wish it was you who I could hold
THESE FEW LINES ARE GOING TO STAY WITH ME FOR LONG...
