No More Question

No More Question

A Poem by Lala

We used to play this game
Where I would say your name
I would ask you how you were
And repeat the question again to make sure
Every day you'd say you're fine
That you were good and on cloud nine
But today when we played this game again
The tone of your voice changed right there and then
Normally you would just say yes and plead the fifth
But today you gave the true answer when you replied with;

“My lips have forgotten how to smile
A single footstep feels like a mile
My favorite food does not taste the same anymore
And I no longer know what to pray for
It is something I don't know how to come back from
My entire being has just started to feel numb
Because I have no more tears to cry
I have no more breath to sigh
I have no more energy to give
In all honesty, I have no more reason to live”

I looked at you and saw your facial expression
And ever since that day I no longer pose the same question
Because now when it is your name I say
It is no longer a game we have to play
Because I no longer had to ask
Now that you have finally taken off your mask
