Surviving Yourself

Surviving Yourself

A Poem by Lala

Whenever I gaze into your direction
I see the definition of natural selection
You are the kind that knows how to survive
Whatever comes your way, you know how to stay alive
But I always end up analyzing
Something you will never stop despising
But I just cannot help to evaluate
Everything that is on your plate
Claiming you don't need anyone
Meanwhile, it is yourself that you try to outrun
Always there for everybody but you
I think it is something you've gotten used to
To show yourself no empathy
And being your own worst enemy
I wish it was your own advice you would mimic
But you are your own worst critic
Never will you be self forgiving
Thinking that is the key to living
But baby, that is not a long-term solution
You need to find an inner resolution
Because being your own rival
Will eventually inhibit your survival
