Sharing a Broken Heart

Broken is seen as a negative term

But I began to think it through
Normally I would agree and confirm
But on one aspect I altered my view

It is something I live with every day
I am referring to a broken heart
And all of the pieces I gave away
Everyone I love receives a part
Sometimes it is a gift they return

At other times it is something they steal
Some people just want to see it burn
But for others it makes them able to feel

Not all of the fragments are the same
But it is my heart nonetheless

When you receive it, it is yours to claim
Yet is not something I give to impress
I divide the pieces keeping in mind a certain thought

A mindset I did not believe I could have known

I will always find the comfort I desperately sought
And hence I will never feel alone

With this thought I am trying to make clear
That despite the fact that love is scary
It is not something you should fear

Or something that you should bury

If your heart has been broken, let it be
Do not think it is something you can no longer share
I hope I open your eyes so you can see
That brokenness does not always need a repair 

Rather, see it as an opportunity
To give everyone a special piece of your own
Because it provides a sense of immunity
And stops your heart from turning into stone
