Waking Up

Waking Up

A Poem by Lala

At night we are hidden under the covers
With our bodies tangled like lovers
Drifting off to our dreams together
Wishing we could lay here forever
But every morning is the same ritual
A routine that has become habitual
Trying to interrupt your sleep
But it seems like you are in too deep
Resisting all the efforts that I do
Because you do not want me to wake you
So when daylight arrives
I turn over to you to start our lives
Expecting that by my side is where you will be
But I do not see you next to me
Instead, I am alone in this bed
And a thought starts to run through my head
Causing a formation of frustration
As I come to the realization
That every day, when the alarm goes off at seven
There will be nothing I can do, to wake you up from heaven
