Breaking Up

Breaking Up

A Poem by Lala

'It's not you it's me' is a common plea
And I really wish I could disagree
But my love for you has been tamed
And only I'm the one who can be blamed
Realizing you're not with whom I belong
Being with you started to feel wrong
Having to reveal I no longer loved you
Was the hardest thing I ever had to do
The end of a chapter, the closing of a book
I will never forget how you gave me that look
Your facial expression radiated disbelief
I expected liberation but I felt no relief
I owe you an explanation
But I am lost in translation
Being responsible for your pain
Gives me no right to complain
But the moment I broke your heart
Is the moment mine tore apart
Your happiness is and always was
My number one priority, my life cause
But now I am the reason
Behind your feelings of treason
Because of the rejection of our love connection
I can no longer provide you my protection
The absence of my anticipated salvation
Leads to a state of desperation
Against your departure I want to protest
But asking you to stay I cannot request
You in my life is what I simply wish
But I know that is shamefully selfish
I have to leave you alone, give you space
Demanding your presence is not my place
I accept I have to pay this price
And I accept that I am the one you despise.
Because if I were you
I would hate me too
