PRESIDENTIAL

A Poem by RHEA CROSLEY
"

A Prayer for our president

"

PRESIDENTIAL AWE

I pray and weep upon my knees for the President today.

My heart goes out in understanding for though he be taller then most men

Yet, he is still a man.

The burdens he must bear are greater then any mans shoulders.

The influences he must filter greater then a man can crystallize into truth.

There are balances and forces that are hard to reconcile, beyond his control.

The clock moves faster then the wisdom of man and this he sees to well.

A president can be no greater then the people governed allow.

He can reach no higher then we all reach as one.

One man can not pull the weight of a Nation that sits and fights in the mud.

He watches as all loose when all fight.

This is why we as a people must be wise.

This is why we all must be humble and on our knees for our President.

For the best of us could not do what He must do without our allegiance and the aid of Heaven.

I like line three. Yes, he is very much a man and always will be. I'm not sure about being 'on our knees' as that smaacks of servility. And capitalising 'He' in the last line makes him sound like some god which he is not. I think all politicians must be open to healthy scepticism and never turned into demi-gods. Britain's Blair started out a bit like Obama and is now reviled by many, with some saying he should be charged with war crimes.

Amen, Rhea. He is a talented, intelligent man, but shackled by a lack of cooperation among his fellow leaders. They seem to choose to drag all down rather than allow some progress and direction from this great man.
Thank you for sharing,

I second this prayer, Rhea. He is just a man--not a magician, and the problems he's expected to solve are immense.
