Most Beautiful Poem (On Earth)

Most Beautiful Poem (On Earth)

A Poem by S.S.P.
"

an imagining of the earth, minus one factor. 7/2/09

"

the most beautiful poem on earth

would be the one

that could never be read

never understood

never translated into twisted tongue

never heard by hardened heart

nor held by toxic hand

the most beautiful poem on earth

for earth

would decay without disturbance

a prone preamble to renewal

in the serenity of an otherwise pristine landscape

a letter-pressed broadside

(on goldenrod of course)

numbered, lettered and limited

by the last human hand

to ever pull a pen

and the last malignant man

to ever pull a breath.

on earth.

I too have a thing for goldenrod, and that is probably where I would choose to write a poem about the demise of this particular factor. This is very beautifully done- you capture the essence in a few words, a few stanzas. My favorite line is "a letter pressed broadside"- I just love the image that conjures for me.

I think of Jared Diamond asking, "What went through the mind of the man who cut down the last tree on Easter Island?"

i love this poem. the imagery is amazing. "twisted tongue" "hardened heart" "toxic hand". yes the earth would be such a beautiful peaceful place minus that one factor. & i love the last stanza. great write.

I'm sorry if I wasn't clear in my contest description, but your work should be about something that ISN'T on Earth. It's beautiful, but it doesn't match the description. I'm sorry.
