To Mahatma Gandhi

To Mahatma Gandhi

A Poem by Selman Repišti

Fearless ascetic,

Guardian of ahimsa's*  light,

unobtrusive Prophet,

you humanoid avatar!

Do you remember how you gave

your executioner who was mad bloodlust

who separated  atma**  from your body,

poor prisoner newly awakened?

Do they know they've lost face,

spitting in the face of humanity,

the ghosts, immediately they became,

the grotesque, the wretched traitors.

Undergirding these blasphemous, Mohandas,

earthly gold greedily the kite,

Volcano pride " became the modern Parnassus,

warlike battalions - became his entourage.

Please, Mahatma, despite this,

Forgiveness provide them, for them to pledge,

their souls are due to karma sluggish,

put your hand on their heads.
