To Mother Teresa

To Mother Teresa

A Poem by Selman Repišti

Great mother of benevolent dress,

you decorated

and protected

a poor orphan,

the miserable one,

with bluish border

of your angelic, cotton sari*.

Oh, mother Earth of sunny crust,

your womb hasn't been

ever closed

for all children who have been nurtured

by a miserly portion

of the peasant spoon.

Oh, you fruitful Earth,

diverse in weaving,

all of us,

from Skopje to Kalkuta,

even before you,

have chosen your unselfish breast.
