Based on a True Story

Based on a True Story

A Story by Cassidy

Dylan blinked as the screen blackened and the credits began to roll.

Only once the cast and crew names ceased their appearances did he lift the remote and power the television off; chills

curled down his spine as he flipped his bedroom light on.

No horror movie he had ever seen before was so realistic.

‘Terrifying’ would be the word used to describe it to his sister when she asked tomorrow.

Lazy though he was, he knew it would be wise to use the bathroom before going to bed.

Oscillating between paranoia and reluctance, he slipped out of his room and practically ran to the bathroom, shutting

the door behind him.

Oh…maybe the movie had scared him more than he thought.

Kneeling over, he leaned against the sink, thinking back to the first words displayed on the screen.

‘Based on a true story’.

Even though most scary movies contained the phrase simply to add more fear to it, he couldn’t help but feel maybe

this time, the words were actually the truth.

His hands began to tremble; what if they were?

Immobilized momentarily by fear, he shook the thoughts away and straightened up determinedly, staring at his

reflection in the mirror mounted above the sink.

Never had he paled as quickly as he did then.

Dylan’s entire body shook with trepidation as he read the message scrawled down the left side of the mirror.

Years later, Dylan Parker’s body is found in the attic of a house that was scheduled for demolition; the only

thing recognizable on the body is an unlabelled, somehow unscratched, disc.

Only one person--a thirty-two year old man by the name of Kyle Moore--dares take the unmarked movie.

Unwinding on his living room sofa later that night, he presses play.

This was a good short read. I recommend that you write a longer second part to this story. I really see the potential with this.
