I Love You

I Love You

A Poem by SPF

Little feet patter through the house
Shuffling, quiet as a mouse

Slips through the door and climbs onto the bed
Snuggles close as I kiss his head

“Mommy,” he says, peering into my eyes,
“I know you love daddy, and I want to know why.”

Taking a moment and thinking things through
Let my heart talk, that’s what I’ll do

I kiss his nose then whisper: “Little Ben,
Daddy loves mommy, and mommy loves him!

Mommy and daddy met a long time ago
Our story is lovely, and it goes like so:

When mommy was in high school, daddy the same,
Mommy liked daddy, but he didn’t know my name

Then mommy talked to daddy, and she wanted to be his,
This is the best part, listen, here it is:

Daddy asked mommy if she wanted to be his girl,
Mommy said yes and daddy became my whole world.

Mommy loves him so much, more than anything
And a few years later, daddy bought me a ring.

Daddy got down on his knee and said : “Baby, you’re my life,
I love you so much, will you please be my wife?”

Instead of saying yes, mommy said our favorite phrase,
Instead of saying yes, mommy said, “Forever and always.”

On that magical day, mommy walked down the aisle
I’ll never forget your daddy’s huge smile

I’ll never forget when I said, “I do”
And the tears that poured down when he said it too,

Not too much later, when we were ready,
We decided to become your mommy and daddy!

One wonderful day I gave birth to our son!
Our bundle of joy, our beautiful one!

And mommy and daddy still love each other,
More than words could explain to any other.”

“So lets see,” says Ben, looking amazed,
“You love Daddy that much?!? Forever and always?!?”

“Around the moon a million times and all the way back again,
More than the greatest amount you could think of, that’s how much I love him.”

“Wow Mommy!” says Ben, “That’s a WHOLE LOT!
And for how long again? You said, but I forgot.”

“Until the sun stops shining, until the Earth runs out of days,
I will love him that much, forever and for always.”

“Thank you Mommy!” he says with a grin,
“For telling all about daddy, and how much you love him!”

He kisses my cheek and crawls out of bed,
He runs out of the room as I lay down my head

The bed shifts beside me as his arms embrace me tight
He says, “ I never knew how much I meant to you until tonight.

I know that we may argue and have our rough days,
But I still want you to know, I love you, forever and always.”
